I noticed recently that Grapher is unable to re-open files in which I rendered (or attempted to render) a text box into Latex. I am using Grapher in Snow Leopard 10.6.8. The problem only occurs under very specific circumstances:
1) create a brand new 2-d file
2) object --> insert text
3) highlight text (doesn't matter what the text is)
4) right click --> services --> Typeset Latex Maths (Display, Inline or Text will result in the same problem)
5) the text in the text box will disappear and the LatexIt application will start, at which point I can type an equation to be rendered. (the text in the box itself is not automatically rendered).
The problem occurs when I click anywhere outside the (now empty) text box in Grapher. The box simply disappears, and Grapher continues to function normally. However, when I save the file and try to re-open, Grapher is unable to do so. This happens whether or not I render equations from LatexIt.
The problem does _not_ happen if I simply create a text box, delete the text in the box, then click outside the box, without starting LatexIt. The box will disappear, as mentioned above, and Grapher will continue to function normally. I can save the file an re-open it, no problem.
The problem also does _not_ happen after starting LatexIt if I type something into the text box, click outside it, then delete it.
Lastly, I found this post:

where it appears that LatexIt should automatically detect and render Latex expressions out of the text.
Can anyone replicate this situation and let me know if it's just me, or if it could be a bug?
