Keeping created date when trimming movies

hi,

i tried using quicktime to trim a movie clip, but i noticed that the only way to save the trimmed clip is to export it as a new file, which won't retain the original created date. is there a way to trim the original clip? what i'd like is to keep the original created date for organizing purposes.
