I was having some issues with my MacBook Pro, running Mac OS X 10.5.8 (details to follow). Just to see if it made a difference, I created a new admin account. When I logged into the newly made account, all problems were fixed. I'm not sure how to go about resolving my original User to non-messed-up-state, or if it's even worth doing. Am I better off starting from scratch with the new User? I've had this laptop for 4+ years so I've obviously put a lot of time into perfecting settings and such just how I want them. Not to mention all the downloads and documents that would have to be moved over to the new user.
ISSUES experienced with original user that resolved with newly created user:
Finder
--Clicking on Finder did not open a Finder window. Right-clicking and choosing "New Finder Window" did not open a Finder window. The only way to access Finder was by right-clicking and choosing "New Smart Folder"
--Double clicking-the original User name in the "Users" folder brings up an error that says, "There is no default application specified to open the document 'Jenni'." (This issue persists even when accessing it via Finder when logged in to the new account. Double clicking on "AdminTest" (the newly created admin) results in normal behavior.)
iPhoto (iPhoto library is on an external hard drive)
--iPhoto Library Manager (FatCat Software) was unable to locate the iphoto library when logged in under the original user. Under the new user, it locates it and rebuilds it without issue.
--double-clicking on the iPhoto library on the external hard drive resulted in a spinning beach ball under both users.
And before anyone asks, no, I do not have a Time Machine backup to go to. But it's not my fault, I swear! I was backing up onto an external hard drive that died. Before it died completely I managed to get it to a computer store and get the pictures and music off of it... it's possible there are Time Machine backups in there somewhere, too, but if so I'm not sure how to find and identify them, nor how to go about going "back" to them.
