With my current setup, the audio travels from iTunes to Audio Hijack Pro to Jack OS X to Audulus to Built-in Output to headphones. It works fine, but I'd like to eliminate Audio Hijack Pro from that chain (to save a little bit of CPU). It would be possible if I used a different music player, that lets you select the output device (in my case, to select Jack OS X as the output device). What options are there? I've tried Vox 1.0, and Jack OS X doesn't show up in the output device menu, possibly because of sandboxing. Clementine 1.1 has an output device field, but it's not modifiable. I've tried others but I'm so disorganized that I haven't kept track of them (but I will from now on).
There are also some options besides choosing a different music player, but for one reason or another they aren't ideal. I could choose Jack OS X for sound output in Audio MIDI Setup, but then I can't adjust the volume using the keyboard buttons. I could choose Soundflower for sound output in Audio MIDI Setup, but then the volume buttons adjust the volume of Soundflower, and the music sounds different, even if I max out the volume of my headphone out before switching to Soundflower. The previous setup I was usingiTunes to Audio Hijack Pro to Built-in Output to headphoneswas fine also, but AHP is incompatible with many Audio Units and it's not a 64-bit app yet.
Just to reiterate, my question is: What Mac music players allow you to select the output device?
