Game Booster equivalent?

Hi,

As a long-time PC gamer ever since I've switched to a high-end Mac I've never really felt the need to try to boost gaming performance. But now that it's running a 1440p monitor and with 2 years of hell under its belt, my MacBook Pro is starting to show its age.

On League of Legends on Mountain Lion I'm getting a stable 30fps with vsync off and all high. On Mavericks it's between 24-30 (playable enough) at all medium. Of course I'm assuming that the drop in performance is due to the new OS introducing new code, and perhaps changing around the kexts a bit, but I'm also assuming that with Mavericks a host of background applications was introduced and is harming graphics performance.

My question then is if there is a Mac equivalent of Game Booster. Well-known to many PC gamers, Game Booster temporarily closes unnecessary background processes and services to maximize gaming performance, and resumes them once deactivated.
