Another Pages gripe

Perhaps I'm an idiot (well, well) but I have learned to make do with iWork Pages. There is, however, something I don't understand, and find very frustrating. In working with a long document (in my case a manuscript), if you decide that you want to utilize Find and Replace's Replace All function within SELECTED sections only, you can't do it. You can do it for the ENTIRE document, and you can do it if you want to keep hitting the key to correct each instance only, but risk carpal tunnel after a certain point. Why is this not an option? Surely I can't be the only one banging my (his, her, your) head on the desk in frustration about this. I know that the current itineration of Pages has taken its well deserve share of abuse, but I've gone back to using 4.1, and it would appear that this wasn't an option then, either. If you're designing software for Apple, is this that bloody hard to do?

I've spent all afternoon trying to Google/find a workaround for this, but apparently there is none. Because Apple knows that I don't need it.

End of rant.

iTunes Store with Blurry Text Prices

Hello all, I have noticed a little quirk with the iTunes Store and the pricing text. It looks like it is blurry when I have the mouse over an album or song or when viewing an album. This has never been happened to me before and only happens with iTunes 11, even when I moved all of my items from an old PC to the current one I'm using and reinstalling iTunes in Windows 8.

Is anyone else seeing this, or is it just me?

(Sorry about the photo, original is 1920x1080.)

Desktop Buttons Software?

Hello!

Does anybody know of a software that transforms a select area of your desktop (say, specify an area that if you click) it acts as a button to do an action?

I've been looking for one, but can't seem to find any.

Adequate Video Editor Program

Hi guys, hope I'm in the right section here.

I've been dying, absolutely dying to get a proper, practical, easy video editing program...for any system really, Microsoft or Mac, but right now I'm on Mac only and REALLY REALLY need a proper one.

It's a software I'd be using often, basically daily, so I want it to be fast, efficient, simple. iMovie just doesn't do it for me.

What I really want to do with it is mostly cut and join parts of videos, and all the apps I've tried before are just way too complicated for such a simple feat. I'd like other little things too, like add transitions perhaps, add text maybe...

Could anyone point me in the right direction ? I've tried to find the right one by myself, never came close to finding the right all-encompassing elementary program I wanted.
Can be free or not, I don't care. Just give me choices if you will.
Many thanks.

How can I delete a podcast but prevent it from returning as a potential download?

When I download a podcast I subscribe to, I listen to it and delete it. But when my podcast gets refreshed, all the old and potentially downloadable episodes come up. This makes it close to impossible to keep track of what I already listened to. Is there anyway to ensure something I already listened to doesn't return? Or some other workaround for this problem?

iCal did not send email reminder for the times I have set.
I use iCal as my calendar app and Outlook as my email client. Maybe this is the reason? Will it send email reminders only if I use Apple Mail client?

(I did write the correct email address on my Contact Card).

Thank you!

Parallels Desktop 10 for Mac and Parallels Desktop 10 for Mac Enterprise Edition has experimental support for many of the features of OS X Yosemite Developer Preview, bringing them to Windows and Windows applications. However, we do not provide technical support for it at this time. Parallels plans to fully support OS X Yosemite in Parallels Desktop 10 when Yosemite becomes commercially available.

Most advisable email client

Hello,

I have been migrating from Windows to rMBP and I need to transfer all my email accounts.

I have always used Thunderbird as Windows email client. My first question is what is the most advisable email client for a rMBP.

As to this please note that nearly all my mailbox are IMAP (Google and Yahoo) and that I usually save locally, under Local Folders, copy of the received and sent emails.

Secondly, I wonder if there an easy way to migrate the mailboxes and the local folder from Windows Thunderbird to the chosen client in rMBP.

Thanks for the usual great help.

Mail: How do I stop Yahoo bulk/spam mail?

I have a couple of Yahoo Imap email accounts of which one is regularly receiving spam into the bulk folder. I have set up rules to stop and delete these emails on receipt but they keep coming from other spammers. Is there any way in Mail to prevent this as I am tired of constantly placing rules on every one I receive. I know that last resort I can delete the email address but thought there might be a different way.

iTunes - MP3 Tags not showing correctly on other devices

$

Hi,

I've been polishing up my iTunes library by updating and correcting all the track's information such as album name, track info, artists, album art, etc.

All is good - information displays perfectly fine on my iPhone when transferred and synced.

However, when I transfer the mp3 file to another device, say an Android phone, the information (tags/metadata) that I updated does not show up.

From my understanding, the track information that I updated is saved by iTunes and used only by iTunes (and iOS devices) and the track information is not saved or appended to the mp3 file itself but is stored in a separate iTunes file. This is why it's causing other music players on other devices to display the non-updated tags for the mp3 file (i.e. the tags embedded in the mp3 file itself).

My question is: how do I get iTunes to embed/append the track info I updated on iTunes to the mp3 file itself?

Also, what does "Convert ID3 Tags" do?

Would appreciate some help.

Thanks!

I hear absolutely nothing about new iLife updates. They can all use new features, esp. with book making in iPhoto. More options should be available for customization. iMovies needs work as well. Whats the story here? Has Apple given up on creating great creative software. iAuthor is not mentioned anywhere. This used to be big announcements from Apple every year. Now, its zip.:(

Merge multiple iPhoto libraries onto one external disk

I'd like to combine all of our photos (16,000) from several computers onto a single external drive. I'm not certain how it happened but there are at least 1,000 duplicates.

I've read any number of threads and reviews of the various applications that could do this for me and it usually seems to come down to Application X vs iPhoto Library Manager with cost being a major factor. If I don't mind spending $30, is there any reason to consider another app?

TIA

For some reason my iMessage app on my mac is not updating. It seems to have started after I installed the latest safari and iTunes updates from the app store. Not sure if they are connected though. I'm running Mavericks 10.9.4

Few things I've noticed.

- Any message I send from the mac shows up on iMessage and my iPhone
- Only certain messages I send from my phone show up on my mac

Has this been happening to anyone else?

Mac Word 2008: Hyperlinking/linking within a word document?

$

Hello! A friend came over tonight and had a question about Word 2008. Generally, I'm the go-to computer guy, but it turns out I'm a software developer and know basically nothing about Word. So, I told him I'd do my best to get him an answer!

So, here we go:

My buddy has basically a large word document, including a relatively significant table of contents. The issue here is that the various headings of the document has no "semantic" value. I.e. they weren't created with any of Word's table of contents/index/etc tools. It's just text.

His goal is to be able to make the various parts of the index clickable. But he wants to be able to manually create these links, nothing fancy. In the past I guess he used something like "bookmarks" to make links within a document, but apparently this version of word (Mac Word 2008) doesn't work in the same way (?).

To recap: he basically wants to highlight a word or sentence (etc), and make it so when clicked the user is brought down to a particular section of the document.

Thanks in advance for any help/tips!

Need a Good ID Card Maker

$

I'm looking for software that I can use to make Student ID Cards for my school. I have a Magicard Enduro printer. On the school PCs, we use "SimplyID". I'd rather do it on my computer, but I can't find the right software. Ideally, I'm looking for software that can do the following:

Allow for the creation of about 900 ID cards based off a template.

I need it to hold a database of the info of each card (including picture) OR do it off an Excel Spreadsheet.

I need to be able to print whatever card I need, so I would need to search the database or reorganize it at will (in the case that it doesn't connect to an Excel Spreadsheet.

I've looked online for a while, but can't seem to find a good program for the Mac that will do this. Any suggestions would be great.

Recovered Photos & Videos From External HDD w/ Data Rescue NOT Opening/Viewable

$

I have a external hard drive that I used to rarely use, the last times being back in December 2013 as Time Machine backups back when I had a MacBook Pro. Since, I've gotten rid of my laptop and have only had an iPhone and iPad.

It was during this time I accumulated a ton of photos and videos shot from both iOS devices. I extracted and saved the files on my external hard drive in a folder titled "travel" upon connecting it to a friend's MacBook Pro. This folder titled Travel was next to a folder titled "something.backups" (I only remember the extension right now) (Presumably the Time Machine backup seeing as I could venture into this .backup folder and access my expected OSX folders.

Also, I should note that my external hard drive has always required a password in order for it to show up on a Mac. I'm always prompted to input my password immediately after connecting it via USB. However at one point, the external hard drive stopped prompting for me to put it in my password, or even show up on my desktop or finder. This external hard drive did appear in Disk Utility, however it was a grayed out option.

This led me to purchase Disk Drill & (then) Data Rescue and do a Scan & Recover which took a better part of 7 hours to complete. The latter displayed my "travel" folder with the videos and photos within, however upon attempting to open and view any of these files I receive this (pictured). I feel so close in my attempts to recover this information.

Any and all help is appreciated. Thank you!

The bigger issue is getting this external hard drive to show up somewhere else besides Disk Utility and not grayed out, granting me access to my files... but alas right now i'm settling in just retrieving the media from this folder.

Facetime: How much data use?

$

I'm aware that using FB on my iphone is around 130MB per hour or something small like that via 3G/4G.. but I was wondering how does this compare to using facetime on your computer (which I do a lot of) and how much roughly per hour data might be used at a rough estimate?

I only ask because I keep blowing my monthly data limit and do a LOT of facetime so was wondering if that was partly the cause.

Cheers,

Parallels for Microsoft ERP Consultants

Hi guys,

I'd like to use my Mac in my daily work as a ERP consultant. I work for many companies, always with Microsoft tools.

Is there any other consultant which uses a Mac on this typical Microsoft environment? Is Parallels, from your point of view, a good option? What are the inconveniences?

Thanks in advance for sharing your experience.

Regards.
