App for organizing files buy visual chart?

Hello everyone,

This is my first post on here so apologies for any noob mistakes. I have a been a mac user for over 6 years. Anyways, does anyone know of a application that will show you all of your files on your mac with a visual color-coded chart? Either pie chart or bar graph or something similar? I believe I used one years ago that was still being developed. I just want to see visually which files are what (movies, music, photos, apps, etc.) and which are taking up the most space so I can downsize appropriately.

iPhoto 09 is changing orientation upon import

As I'm importing my photos into iPhoto 09, my images are being changed to landscape mode. The problem is that many of these pics were taken in portrait mode, so I need to manually correct them. And once I rotate them, it is changing the metadata, creating a new file with an updated modified date and storing it in the Modified folder. This is a problem because:
1. it's a real time killer to manually rotate the photos
2. it's messing with my metadata, and I'm pretty anal about that stuff being true
3. it's a waste of storage space, creating a modified file when one really shouldn't be created.

So how do I get iPhoto to import my pics in the orientation they were shot?

Turn off Keychain??

I do not want to use the Keychain facility on my iMAC and would like to turn it off (or at least its intrusive nature while browsing)

What effect will turning it off have (other than getting it out of my face while browsing - which I want) - will there be any unforseen effects? It is not entirely clear how to turn it off - I can reset it (it seems) through Keychain Access.

Any advice would be useful.

Any Apps to help clean up iTunes Library?

Are there any apps out there to help clean up my iTunes Library? I signed up for iTunes Match last year and all it did was screw up my library. It changed album artwork, titles, albums, and gave me duplicates of songs. I know how to get rid of duplicates but all the other stuff is driving me crazy. I have about 60gb of music and i'm going crazy going song by song, album by album.

Please help me from going crazy!!!!!!

OneNote Backup Help

I am starting to use OneNote for school, and I want a REALLY good way to back it up and had two questions.

1) In my OneDrive Folder there is a OneNote folder that contains a .url file for each notebook I have. Is simply making a copy of this file equal to making a backup of a notebook?

2) Can anyone with OneNote experience (Mac or PC) explain the export as PDF function? OneNote has an unlimited canvas, but when I export a page as a PDF it doesn't resize or make multiple pages to get all content, it just cuts off content at the edge of the paper.

Safari Shortcuts

Hi all... I'm a long time Firefox user, who recently bought a MBA.

On OSX, I have had absolutely no issue with Firefox, it's fast, reliable, etc. The only reason I would like to switch is bookmarks/reading list sync with my phone.

That being said, there are a few roadblocks preventing me from switching:

1) I use the Firefox search bar (cmd+K) to Google search for things, and use the Tab button to go down the list to get to things faster. This does not seem possible on Safari -- I either have to awkwardly use my pinky to use the down arrow, use the cursor, or type out more of the search term.

2) More importantly, I use cmd+# to switch immediately to the tab I want. On Safari, it seems as though you can only cycle through tabs (not switch to one directly) by moving your hand in an awkward position and hitting ctrl+tab

3) Pinned tabs

These things may seem minor to some, but they are a big part of my workflow that speeds things up. I have googled around and could not find answers, so please let me know if these are possible on Safari.

Can't open Pages '09 document in Pages '09 in Mavericks

I upgraded to Mavericks a few days ago. I have documents that were created in Pages ’09 that will no longer open. (Some will, and I don’t know what the difference is) When I try to open one, it either opens, no problem, or I get the message “The required index.xml file is missing”. This message is in a rectangle with an icon representative of Pages ’09 (the inkwell). Since it has this icon, I’m assuming that I was trying to open it in the ’09 version, which is what I intended to do. Since this didn’t work, I tried to “open with Pages.app (4.0.5)” and got the same message. I’m a little afraid to try to open it in Pages 5, since I’ve heard rumors that this could ruin the document. I’m at a loss, and, like everybody else, I have important documents that I need access to. After I upgraded I had both Pages ’09 and Pages 5 on my dock, instead of one of them being in the applications folder. I have looked briefly at pages 5 and determined that I prefer ’09. They are both still in my dock but I never open Pages 5. I’m using an iMac with 10.9.4. All my documents are in Pages ’09 and I want to open them in Pages ’09. What to do?

Help with iPhoto!!!

I'm having issues with iPhoto can anyone help?

Somehow when i've uploaded all of my phone photos they have gone into several different albums and there are lots of duplicates. They are also not in chronological order.

How do I put these 4 albums all into one without losing any photos so they are in order and only have one of each??!!!
It's all very confusing to me! I don't use faces or places or events really just albums. I had a look in events and there are hardly any photos on there.... I also went to photos and there are various photos that are downloaded more than once. Are these the masters because perhaps I accidentally imported them more them once?

It's nice that they are in order though. I'm still a little unsure about how to sort my albums. I've tried to attach a picture. I'd like all of these albums to be in one album and to get rid of the several copies of images that are in them. I'd also like them to be in order of time. Is there an easier way than dragging and dropping and deleting to achieve this?

I've already had some help but I'm still confused so they suggested I start a new thread....i'm new at this!!!!

Email Outbound (SMTP) update

I am an OSX new-be, so forgive me if I am asking a silly question.

I have two email accounts, and somehow the outbound SMTP details for one have been entered for the other. Thus I cannot send emails (although I can receive them)

I cannot find out where to amend the email account details. It ought to be in System Preferences / Internet Accounts, but the Details selection there, whch should, I feel, allow me to make these changes, gives me very little scope.

I have also tried within the Email app itself, and I get the same result.

So - can someone suggest how I can change SMTP details (and indeed, any other details)

Premature iCloud Drive/iOS email

Hi guys,

Just had a ping from Mail and was surprised to see a storage limit warning from Apple rewarding my iCloud storage usage.

I wasn't surprised by the email but by the fact is refers to iCloud Drive and iOS8.

I really wish I could upgrade to iCloud Drive but Apple have been pretty quiet about.

App for Local radio stations

Hi,

I am a new user of MacBook pro. Recently purchase and still in the process of learning its features and some of the basic stuff.

My question is regarding radio apps. I use Tune-in pro app on iOS devices such as my iPhone and iPad. However, after searching in the app store on Mac, I haven't seen any such app.

Could anyone suggest any radio app that plays live radio stations?

Why Mavericks. Any good?

I cant install Telegram due to Snow Leopard V10.6 and it has to be 10.7 and above. My friend urge me to install Maverick which is free and therefore can install Telegram.

Questions:
How long has the free program Maverick has been out? If its free, why should people still pay to upgrade their Snow Leopard to Lion or Mountain Lion. Where's the catch?

Do anyone experience any bad issue with Mavericks? I'm afraid after upgraded, my files or program may go haywire. I read from some review there are people regretted after installing, yet many are equally happy.

Question about using Astrill on a mac.

Hello MacRumors Community,

I am in China at the moment so have to use Astrill WPN to access google, Facebook etc. After about 3-5 minutes after I launch Astrill, a dialogue window pops-up : Do you want the application "Astrill.app" to accept incoming network connections? There are two options - Deny and Allow.

I was wondering whether Allow will compromise my security?

Access Time Machine backup from other computer: "Browse other backup disks" does not

Hi,

I am using Mavericks and would like to access my time machine backup from another computer. Previous posts in different forums suggests that "Browse other backup disks" (option-click on TM icon) solves the problem but it doesn't work for me. When I do that, the different backup show up, I can select them and the TM interface opens but it only shows the current status of my mac and not the files from the backup. What is the problem? Any solutions?
